There are more shocking revelations in store for Diane this week when Marty finally tells her the whole truth about his first marriage to Jan. Diane is distraught when Marty fails to arrive home from work and even a phone call to Christie does little to reassure her that nothing has happened to him. After waiting alone all night in the kitchen for him to return, she is pleased to see Brigid who arrives home from hospital early that morning. Brigid tries to calm Diane by saying that Marty has probably just been out drinking all night.
When
he eventually comes home later in the day Diane demands an explanation, and
in the ensuing argument she hears the truth about what really went on between
him and Jan. Marty explains that Jan was a very violent woman and not only
did she break Stevens arm, Marty also suffered as a battered husband. It was
when he took the blame for Stevens injury that he was placed on the
child abuse register and he also had a police record for the time he fought
back and hit Jan.
Although
horrified by these revelations, Diane is more annoyed by the fact Marty had
kept this from her all the time they had been married. She feels she doesnt
really know him at all and after another row throws him out. Marty believes
his marriage is worth saving and decides to go back and try for reconciliation.
Meanwhile the police suspect the letter apparently written by Imelda, actually
originated from the Murray house and turn up with a warrant to search the
house. After finding evidence on the computer they arrest Marty when he returns
to see Diane. When Anthony sees all the police cars outside his house, he
thinks that Imelda has been found and his nightmare will soon be over.
